Table Pedestals

Finding dramatic pieces for the center of the table or a sideboard is never easy, not only are pieces hard to find, but they end up costing a fortune!  Here's one solution using a table leg and a salad bowl that I did for our Home & Family table that I adore. MATERIALS- Table leg (new or old)- Wood salad bowl- Wood plaque-Spray paint for base coat, any natural stone color- Stone effect spray paint (you can get this at any hardware or craft store) STEPS Depending on the size of your leg or unless you want a single super tall pedestal, cut your leg.  I cut mine about a third the way down so I got two pedestals that worked well together out of one leg. Place a screw up through the center of your wood plaque into the table leg. Place your salad bowl on top and put another screw through the salad bowl into the top of the leg.  I used a washer with mine, but it's not necessary. That's it for the structure (I know, wasn't that easy).  For the paint finish, give the pedestal a base coat of your solid color spray paint.  I used a black because that's what I had laying around.  This basically helps visually unify the piece and keeps you from having to do a zillion coats.  Once that's dry, do a second coat with the stone finish paint....and you're done! Because the salad bowl is wood it will eventually rot if you plant directly into it, so I used a plastic tub cut down to plant in and then just placed it in the bowl.
