I’m all about fun pumpkins for the kids, but sometimes you need to do something for yourself. So, these are for me, for you, and for anyone else who’s ever had a love of old botanical prints.  Easy to do and they’ll last forever.

MATERIALSLeaves, flowers, ferns or what not. Some heavy book stand a brick or an ironA few sheets of printer paperFaux pumpkinsSpray adhesiveOff white paintMod Podge

STEPSFirst you’ll need to press your botanicals. Arrange them between two sheets of printer paper and flatten them by hand as much as possible. Now you have two options. For the book method, simple insert the papers between the pages of a book, stack more books or a brick on top and let them sit for 2 weeks. Alternatively, if you don’t want to wait 2 weeks, press the two sheets of paper with a warm dry iron for 15 seconds, let cool and repeat until the botanicals are dried out.

While your botanicals are drying, paint your faux pumpkins with the off-white paint and let dry.  Give them a second coat if necessary.

To attach your botanicals I found that the easiest way was to spray an area of the pumpkin with spray adhesive, then carefully lay the botanical onto the pumpkin.  Having a pair or tweezers handy to move things around and a pencil to poke things down is useful as well. Once they’re in place, let the adhesive fully dry.

Now, coat the botanicals and the rest of the pumpkin with a layer of Mod Podge. Any pieces that didn’t quite lay flat with the adhesive can we reattached at this point.  Now, just let the Mod Podge dry.
