Beaded Snowflake
I’ve always loved the clean lines and natural woods of Scandinavian design. There’s something so modern and refreshing, even in the most rustic of designs. These wooden bead snowflakes have that feel and once you get the hang of it, you can make them in as many different ways as there are snowflakes.
MATERIALS
2” square wood block4 beaded posts or small table legs (I found mine at Michaels)1/4” dowelWooden beads with 1/4” holesWooded skewersSmaller wooden beads in whatever variety floats your boat2” bead or knob.
STEPS
Cut five 1.5" pieces from the dowel.
Drill a 1/4” hole in the center of all sides of the 2” cube, about 3/4” deep.
Drill another 1/4” hole in the ends of your 4 beaded posts.
Drill another 1/4” hole a few beads down your post.
Using some glue, insert the 1” dowels into the 2” cube and then slide the beaded post on to the dowel that’s sticking out. Make sure the the second hole you drilled lays in a horizontal position when you attach the posts.
Repeat on all 4 sides.
Cut 4 lengths of dowel that equal the length of 6 of the beads with the 1/4” hole plus the width of the post. Insert them into each post.
Slide 3 beads with the 1/4” hole onto each side, securing the end beads with glue.
Drill small holes, equal to the width of your skewers, into 4 sides of the 2” knob. On the bottom of the knob, drill a 1/4” hole 3/4” deep.
Insert a skewer into each of the holes and fill with the smaller beads. I used 7 smaller, 1 medium, and 1 slightly larger on the end. The ones I wanted to use on the end didn’t actually have the right size hole, so I just added one with a drill. Feel free to improvise!
Once you’re happy with your center piece, attach it to the 2” block of the main piece by using the last of your 1.5” dowel and a little glue.
Small ones, standing ones. Definitely, the more the merrier!
