My Windows Revealed

My fabulous new Smith & Noble window treatments are up!!! The shades arrived a couple of weeks after ordering and I managed to install them all myself, which made them less expensive (you know how I love a deal!).

Everything arrived well packaged and, thank goodness, clearly labelled!

Just a reminder of where we started. Gosh, now I look at this picture and it just looks depressing!!!

I was able to install everything using a standard power screwdriver which made it very easy. These are the solar shades, which have been great because the sun just bakes this room in the afternoon as the kids are trying to do their homework. This way they get the light without the glare - they also reduce damage to furniture due to UV rays.

The shades went up just as easy. I ordered them with a valance covered in the same fabric and mounted them above the window frame. This was partly due to the decorative molding being in the way, but also to add extra height. It really makes the ceiling seem higher and the widows bigger than they already are! I’m also super happy with the Flat Roman Shade construction. It makes this relatively traditional fabric look modern.

For the guest and master bedrooms, I used the Raw Linen fabric, but added a chocolate ribbon trim - who knew they had an entire assortment of trim that you can add to any shade! I also added a cornice in the same fabric and trim to create some more structure.

I’m so happy with the final outcome. It’s amazing how window treatments can change a room so much - the warmth, the finished feel, and the utility! Now I just kick myself for not doing this sooner!!!
