Reversible Hairbands

Having two little girls has given me a focus on hair accessories that I didn't think was possible.  And in that focus I've realized that cute, inexpensive, durable headbands are almost impossible to find.  So, not to let my girls hair go under accessorized, I decided I was going to make my own hairbands from some scrap fabric and a little elastic......MATERIALS- Two pieces of fabric, approximately 3" x 13"- Fold over elastic - 8"- Safety pin- Piece of yarn or stringSTEPS Fold each of your pieces of fabric in half.Cut out the pattern and pin to the fabric matching up the fold mark on the pattern with the fold on the fabric.Fold down a half inch at each end of the two pieces of fabric and iron flat.Cut a piece of elastic apron 5" long.  It's a good idea to measure your wee one's head to make sure you've got the right size.  Just place the piece of cut fabric around your girl's head and measure how much elastic you need to make it the rest of the way around their noggin.  Tie the piece of string to the safety pin and pin it to the elastic. Place one piece of fabric right side up.  Lay the elastic with string on top.  Line up the edge of the elastic with the short edge of the fabric and let the string run out of the other end.  Lay the second piece of fabric right side down on top of the first, sandwiching the elastic.  Sew around three sides of the sandwich, leaving the end with the string hanging out open.Turn the hairband right side out by pulling the string and gently working the elastic and fabric through.Iron the hairband flat.  Insert the remaining loose end of the elastic into the remaining open end of the hairband and secure by topstitching the elastic in place with the sewing machine.
