Last Minute Halloween DIYs
Okay, you know who you are. It's Halloween morning, T minus 9 hours before kids come knocking or friends are headed over and you've done nothing. Well, fear not, I've got your back! Here are 5 easy halloween decorating ideas that you can do with things around your house or things you can pick up at the corner store, because we know you still have to go out and get candy anyway, don't you.
#1 BLEEDING CANDLES
Go to your candle drawer, or shelf, or where ever you keep your candles. Now I know you've got a red candle from last Christmas, doesn't matter what kind, and you've got some white pillar candles that are dented, dinged, our your better half dropped the match stick into the center of. Light your red candle, hold it sideways and let the melted wax drip down the side of your white pillars. Do that all around the sides and, BOOM, you're done!
#2 SPIDER EGG SACK
Take a pair of white pantyhose, if you don't have any, I got a pair at Walgreens for $0.75, while you're there get a package of plastic spiders - they should be 75% off at this time. Grab an orange (or onion or apple or croquet ball) and some pillow stuffing.
Cut off one leg of the panty hose. Wrap you're round object with some of the pillow stuffing and shove it to the bottom o the hose. Put in some more stuffing up to the top of the hose. Glue on some spiders here and there. For added creepiness, dribble hot glue on it in random spots, makes it look like weird spider stuff is oozing out. Hang.
#3 CREEPY "APOTHECARY" COLLECTION
Take whatever cheep halloween stuff is left over at the store, or broken stuff you have from last year - the skull off the skeleton, the plastic crow with the broken wing, the mini-tombstone that broke off the display. Take your covered cake plate, cheese dome or upside down glass vase that's in your cupboard and slide the item under it - insta-apothecary. Do a few of them grouped on a table and it's immediate halloween glamour. If you decide to get fancy, add a little moss under them.
#4 CHAIN HURRICANES
Take any glass vases you have and some old chain, real or fake. If you don't have chain laying around, rope will do.
Hot glue it around the bottom of the vase, drape the end over the top, add a candle or fill with water and use floating candles like I did.
#5 RAT PUMPKIN
No halloween is complete without some kind of carved pumpkin. But come on, cutting the top off and scooping out all the insides is a big hassle and a lot of mess. Here's the solution. Get your pumpkin, cut out a single hole in the side. Pull out the circle and push in some sort of vermin - rat, mouse, spider, etc. The gross insides of the pumpkin add to the effect - how easy is that!
Okay, you have no excuses now - decorate away and have a Happy Halloween!
