Wood Door Flag

Add some 4th of July pizzaz to your home with this DIY flag. It's really easy and a great project to do with the kids.MATERIALS- 6 pieces of board, mine were 1"x3"x36", but you could also use old 2"x4"'s or fence or pallet boards if you have them laying around.  Really rustic old boards would look great too.- 2 yards of 2' wide webbing- 2 grommets- A piece of poster board- Paint (uh, red, white & blue), I used spray paint because I'm lazy, but brush on paint would be fine too.- Staple gun- SandpaperSTEPSPaint two of your boards red and one white.On the remaining three boards, apply masking tape at around the 16" mark and paint that portion blue.  Once dry, remove the tape and using new tape, mask off the blue area and paint the non-painted part on two boards white and one board red.  If you're spray painting, lay a piece of cardboard over the blue part  to keep the spray from getting on it.  Once dry, remove the tape.Cut a star template out of your poster board using a utility knife.  It's easiest to take the time to trace one of the wood boards onto the poster board and then measure and cut out 6 stars all in a line within the traced lines.  Then just line up the trace marks with the actual boards and spray paint all six stars at once.Use a piece of sandpaper to soften the edges of your boards and let some of the wood underneath show through.  Focus on the edges and the corners, but you can also take some of the paint off the flat area if your want a more weathered look.Cut the two yards of webbing into two 36" pieces and add a grommet to one end of each piece.  If you've never grommeted before, you can get the kits at any fabric or craft store and it's actually a lot of fun, you'll want to grommet everything in sight!  Lay your boards face down in a flag formation and lay the webbing down each side, 6" in from the edge, and attach with a staple gun.  Use a staple at the top and bottom of each board to keep the boards from tilting.Hang and salute!
