Sugared Apple Wreath

Sugared fruit always brings back such amazing memories for me - my mom’s dinner parties, The Nutcracker ballet, Colonial Williamsburg! So this holiday, I’ve partnered with Cosmic Crisp apples to show you how to make this show stopping Sugared Apple Wreath, perfect for the front door, above the mantle or anywhere that needs some drama! It’s made from fresh materials which makes it extra special! Cosmic Crisp is our family’s apple of choice, not only because they were created after 20 years of study and research by my husband's alma mater, Washington State University (Go Cougars!), but they’re also amazingly delicious and have a really balanced flavor for cooking (and snacking) as well as a gorgeous color….for decorating!

MATERIALS

18 Cosmic Crisp apples

Bay leaf or pine branches

24” Grapevine wreath

6 Branches of faux berries

Spool of floral wire (approx. 26 gauge)

12” Floral stem wire (approx. 22 gauge)

Spray adhesive

Clear chunky glitter

Wire cutters

STEPS

Pierce apple with floral stem wire and push through the apple until centered. Bend the wire to meet below the apple. Repeat with remaining apples changing the angle slightly for some variety.

Working over a covered surface, hold an apple by the wire and coat evenly with spray glue. While still wet, coat heavily with glitter. Set aside to dry. Repeat with remaining apples.

Lay grapevine wreath flat on a surface and place greenery evenly around wreath. Attach one end of the thin floral wire to the back of the wreath and slowly wrap the wire around the wreath and greenery securing everything in place. Be careful to weave wire underneath and around leaves so that the branches are tied down, but the leaves remain free. Cut and tie off other end of wire when complete.

Clip branches of berries so just the berries and a few inches of stem remain.  Insert berries within greenery around wreath.  Secure with additional wire if necessary.

Position glittered apples around wreath, clustering some and leaving others single. Push ends of wire through to back of wreath and twist ends together tightly to secure in place.

Hang and enjoy!
