I’ve never liked putting the kids in their winter coats in the spring. Sure, it’s still cold outside, but those heavy winter coats just seem to insure that winter will never leave. So this year I got some cute spring coats on line and turned them into cute spring creature coats for the kids. With coats this cute, spring wouldn’t dare take too long!

STEPS

For the bunny and mouse ears, I simply cut an ear pattern out of paper and traced them onto two pieces of pink and two pieces of grey felt.

I then stitched them together leaving the bottom edge open. Stitch right sides together, if they have a right side….mine didn’t.

Turn them right side out and pin them in place on the hood. With a needle and thread, hand stitch them into place.

For the fox ears, cut 2 small triangles from the leather, 2 medium triangles from the white fur, and 2 large triangles from the tan fur, and 2

more large triangles from the tan felt. Lay the leather on the white fur and run a single stitch down the center.

Please the white fur on the tan fur and stitch around the white to attach it to the tan fur.

Place the stitched together triangles face down on top of the tan felt and stitch around the edges.

Turn it inside out and you’ve got your ear! Repeat for the other ear. Put a few pieces of scrap fabric inside to fill them out and stitch them to the hood.

For the paws, cut 3 small and 1 large ovals from felt and either stitch or use fabric glue to attach them.

For the bunny tail, I sewed a large faux fur pom pom on the rear of the coat.

For the mouse tail, I cut a long piece of felt in a curly and fabric glued it to the back. For the fox tail I cut a small tail shape from white fur and a large tail shape from the tan fur. I stitched the white to the tan and then glued the tan to the jacket.

To finish them off, I sewed a small pompom onto the mouses hood for a nose and added some fur chest patches to the fox. All in all, very easy and the kids…well, I don’t have to tell them wice to put on their coats anymore!
