I love the early fall - our orchard is producing baskets of apples, pears, and persimmons and the garden is still in full swing.  The farmers’ markets are amazing....and my refrigerator and countertops are completely maxed out.  So I created this basket rack for the wall - not only does it free up a lot is space - you’d be surprised at the produce that does better when left out of the fridge.

STEPSPlace the two boards side by side. Place a small piece of wood (or even a magazine) between the two pieces to create a gap.

Screw the 1”x2” boards across the planks to create a single board.

Paint your boards the desired color and let dry.  Tape your stencil to the top and paint.

Once everything is dry, go over it with some sand paper to expose some of the base wood.  Pay special attention to the edges and corners to give it a good worn look.

Figure out even placement for the baskets and mark where the can be hung using screws.  Usually where the handles attach or under the basket rim is a good location.

Mark and add your screws for the three baskets.

I picked screws so I could lift the baskets on and off, but if you want yours permanently affixed, just pick screws with larger heads.

Once you’ve got them attached hang your board (I used a French cleat) and fill ‘me up.

You’d be amazed what doesn’t need refrigeration - apples, cabbage, melons, bananas (wrap the stems in plastic wrap to keep other fruits from over ripening), stone fruits and even asparagus (keep them in an inch of water in a mason jar) and of course, tomatoes.

Enjoy your rack..and all the extra space on your counter tops and in your fridge!
