Make a Tea Stand from Vintage China
To me a proper tea part is a mix of formal perfection and fantasy. So, what better centerpiece for one than a three tiered tea stand made of vintage china. I picked up everything I needed for this table at a thrift store for under $40 (including all the place settings!).To make the tea stand you start with a traditional cake stand. If you can't find one at a good price, glue gun a dinner plate on top of a pillar holder or candlestick.Glue gun a small stemmed glass on top of that.Add a second slightly smaller plate on top of the wine glass. Note I'm using clear glass here, but this would be just as nice if these were ceramic or porcelain.Glued to the top of that is a small candlestick. On top of that is a individual soup tureen and saucer. A cup and saucer would also work, or even a small teapot. Now that you've got your tower constructed, go back and add in cups, saucers, creamers to the cake plate level. Here's a closer look at how I placed those cups and saucers. To create some visual interest I laid the creamer and two of the cups on their sides. I also stacked two cups to create some different heights. To display my flowers, I soaked floral foam in water and then added small cubes of it to the different vessels.Voila! Formality, meet whimsy!
