DIY Rolling Easel

With a two year old at home and crayon markings already starting to appear mysteriously on walls, the idea of a dedicated place to make and display little Coco's art has become increasingly attractive.  Luckily with this Saturday's episode of Home Made Simple on the Oprah Winfrey Network I had a chance to experiment! In this particular design project I was taking an old free standing garage and transforming it into an arts and crafts room - uh, yeah, pretty much my dream project.  One challenge, however, was how to have floor to ceiling shelving while at the same time not loosing wall space for art time.  My solution was to use old doors (one of my favorite starting points for so many projects), attach them to the edge of the top shelf with barn door hardware, and then trick them out for the miniature Picasso's.  I added rolls of art paper, a bucket for brushes, baskets for pencils and pens and a hook for the requisite art smock.  I also added plenty of display space using cork with pushpins and tin with magnets - after all the kitchen refrigerator can only hold so much. You can find details for this project on www.HomeMadeSimple.com and be sure to watch this Saturday, 9e/8c, for the full transformation!
