Captain's Mirrors are all the rage in home design magazines.  The pricing of the nice ones are a little crazy (like $900 for a large one!) and the less expensive ones just look cheap.  So, here's my version, which has all the rich elements of the expensive ones, without the price tag.

MATERIALS

Round wooden bowl or tray with straight sides

Mirror to fit inside of bowl or tray

Two leather belts

Finial or decorative knob

STEPS

Measure belts by placing buckle on the side of tray (at 3 o'clock) and marking where the belts hit 6 o'clock.

Cut both belts at that mark and use hot glue to attach them to the side of the wood tray with one buckle at 3 0'clock and the other at 9.  Butt the two cut ends as close as possible, so you don't see the seam.  Also, use hot glue to affix the mirror to the inside of the tray.

Take the two remaining pieces of belt and join them together.  To do so, drill 4 holes through the leather and use a needle threaded with twine to sew them together.

Now simply buckle each belt.  To add a decorative touch mount using the decorative knob or finial.

Works great as a pair, like I did in the bedroom, or do a larger one like I did below for above a sofa.
