Jeannie Bed Canopy

Of course I was excited when I found out Barbara Eden was going to be on the show - duh, she's Jeannie! This DIY is a homage to her bottle, which, of course, I was always obsessed with. Also, back in the real world, this is a great option for a kid's room where some little princess wants a canopy bed, but some practical minded parents know that it's a bad investment in the long term. With a little bit of fabric and two curtain rods, you can give her her canopy and not break the bank.

MATERIALS

Fabric - Ideally get a reversible fabric with a width that matches the width of the bed, so you won't have to hem it. If you can't find either, it'll just require a wee bit more work which I will explain below. For yardage, measure the height of your ceiling plus 2 yards.

2 curtain rods with finials the same width of your fabric, they need to have closable brackets that allow you to hang them from the ceiling.

If you weren't able to get fabric to match the width of your bed, go ahead and cut your fabric down to be the bed width and hem it on either side. You'll want a nice rolled him (with no raw edges) since you will see both sides of the fabric at some point.

Decide how long you would like the front flap of your canopy to be. If you're working with standard 8' ceilings, a 2' flap should work well. If your ceilings are higher, then you may want your flap to be longer. If you were able to get reversible fabric, simply fold the fabric over at the 2' mark and sew a seam 1.5" or so from the fold, creating a pocket.

If your fabric isn't reversible, then you'll need to cut the fabric at the 2' mark, lay the 2' portion on top of the remainder, correct side of the flap facing the wrong side of the large portion and sew a seam reattaching it. Now, flip it over so the wrong side of the flap is against the correct side of the remainder and sew a seam 1.5" from the first seam to create your pocket
