Sometimes the simplest of things makes life so much easier – that’s the way I feel about these leash and treat holders. Trying to find the leash and then hunting through the cupboard for the treats – yeah, that’s a pain. So here is a simple project that costs very little and makes life a wee bit easier.
Cut out your wood shape. I made some fancy ones (that would be a little plywood chihuahua) and some simple ones (uh, that would be a square). Sand the edges, paint them the desired color. I chose a bright red for the doggie but left the sides raw plywood for a modern look. For the square I sanded the corners to soften them, painted it a soft blue and then once it was dry went over it with sandpaper again so that some of the wood grain showed through.
Now add your pipe strap. You can get this at any hardware store in the plumbing department. It will cost you about $1.50. Make sure that the diameter will fit whatever bowl or jar you want to use. Screw it into place on your board.
Add drawer knobs or pulls, by either drilling a hole and using the bolt that comes with them or screwing them directly in, depending on the type of knob you have. A little bargain hunting tip – a lot of drawer pull places will have leftover onsie and twosie knobs and pulls on sale for almost nothing. Drop your bowl of treats into the pipe strap.
For the aforementioned chihuahua, I actually used a long bar pull – which would also be great if you had multiple critters to walk.
Now go walk the dog.
