We all have it. That drawer of random hardware. Or maybe it’s a garage shelf with bits and pieces. Well let them sit there no longer! Here’s a great way to pull them together into a bohemian Christmas tree that could really stay up all year long.
Random hardware – hinges, key plates, moulding, anything’s fair game.
Wood – I used an old fence piece, a pice of plywood wood work, an old door.
Star – this you can grab from the craft store.
Screws and screwdriver
While the wood is drying, play around with your hardware. You want to create a tapered shaped from largest to smallest…like a…uh…tree. Feel free to get creative if you don’t have quite the right sizes. I glued two drawer pulls to a scrap piece of wood to create a long piece. Two hinges can be over lapped to make a smaller piece. Also keep color in mind. If you have a piece or two that are silver and don’t quite work with your other pieces that are darker, feel free to hit the offenders with some spray paint or brush some dark hinges with some copper paint if you need them to be brighter.
Secure everything in place, knowing you might have to get creative. Some pieces will have screw holes, others will need to be hot glued down. If the screws end up being bright silver and distracting, hit them with a little paint to hide them.
Add you start to the top and you are done!
