Second hand chairs are always calling to me from thrift stores, dumpsters, and yard sales…”Hey Ken, look how cute I am….take me home…you’ll find something to do with me…I promise.” Well, sometimes I stay strong but often I acquiesce. So any project I can find to use one eases the burden on our basement. Here’s a project that I think is truly worthy of some of the cutest of second hand chairs.
Remove the old seat of the chair by undoing to the screws underneath. Cut a piece of chicken wire a few inches larger on all sides than the chair seat area. Place it on the chair and shape it into a large shallow bowl.
Use the staple gun to go around the edges and staple it in place.
Snip pff any extra.
Line the chickenwire bowl with the burlap. If it’s an open weave burlap you may want to double up. You want it to hold the soil in, but not trap extra water.
Leaving yourself a couple of inches, trim off any extra. Go around the edge and neatly staple the burlap in place. I folded mine under so I’d have a nicer edge. If you’d like to you can then cover the staples with decorative nails or trim….I didn’t bother.
You’re planter is now complete. Simply add some soil and fill with your plants!
Another cute chair lives to see another day
